In the blink of an eye, artificial intelligence (AI) has become a tool in the design process, as standard as using a sketchpad. However, we are still learning how best to harness it as it continues to develop. There’s a tug-of-war between technology and humanness in design. On one hand, tech is revolutionising how we work, but on the other, there is a craving from consumers for human touch, something a machine can’t replicate. That includes the thought and depth behind graphic design. In 2025, we’ll see this play out across the different trends.
As a brand design consultancy working with start-ups and SMEs, we’ve picked out 10 graphic design trends to watch for in 2025 to keep your brand fresh:
1. Wabi-sabi

To kick-off the rebellion against tech in 2025, we have the Japanese design concept ‘wabi-sabi.’ Seen predominantly in the interior design space, the wabi-sabi aesthetic embraces imperfection alongside symmetry. A contradiction that we’ll see more of in the graphic design space. Wabi-sabi is an innately human approach – expect natural textures, simplicity, and design that fosters connection and a sense of calm.
2. Craft & heritage

It’s time for individuality to make a comeback – by embracing a return to our roots. The craft and heritage graphic design trend will see brands prioritise uniqueness. This ties back to the growing demand for authenticity from consumers, which has become a key priority over the past decade. Brands will look to create one-of-a-kind visual languages through custom typography, illustrations, and design elements that reflect craftsmanship.
3. Minimalist maximalism

Minimalism remains a staple trend in the graphic design world – with an added maximalist twist. Bold, extravagant, and layered. A far cry from balanced compositions, neutral colour palettes, and a focus on functionality. The two styles are blending together to create a visually pleasing middle ground. Think bright colours, clean lines, empty space, large fonts, and contrast. Stripped back boldness. We’re big fans here at AZ Design!
4. Analogue

Taking it back to the good old days. In a tech-driven world, analogue is gaining new momentum, reconnecting us with a more personal, authentic experience. In graphic design terms, that looks like mixed media scrapbooks and collages. Injecting a bucket-load of personality into brand design and offering up a different side to consumers – we predict seeing this trend used in brand campaigns rather than as long-term visual identities.
5. Neobrutalism

The brutalist architectural movement of the 1950s and 1960s inspired a new wave of graphic design. Unrefined, bold, and with a focus on functionality. A new wave is here, termed ‘neobrutalism,’ which brings in big colours, geometric shapes, negative space, and a dominant, weighty presence. The antidote to overly polished and intricate graphic design. This trend is for a brand that wants to make an impact and ride the wave of unapologetic design that challenges convention and stands out in a crowded market.
6. Experimental

Here’s where AI is coming into its own, allowing brands to have fun and experiment. Bringing the outside world onto the screen through 3D elements, particularly typography. We’ll see text using all different kinds of textures in 2025 – nothing is off-limits. Brand tag-line in furry zebra-print? Sure. Or futuristic spacecraft metal? No problem. The experimental trend will be a way for brands to showcase their expertise in a more literal and inventive way.
7. Inclusivity

There’s no longer room for brands who aren’t willing to be inclusive in their graphic design. Whether that’s through accessibility – content that can be easily understood and interacted with by people of all abilities, including those with visual, auditory, or cognitive impairments. Or through showing diversity – design that reflects a range of identities and experiences. We’ll see this in 2025 through illustration, imagery, and considered visual language.
8. Biophilic design

Forefront of mind for many audiences is sustainability. This carries over into graphic design, through a biophilic approach (literally meaning ‘love of life’). Incorporating organic textures, earthy colours, and natural shapes to create a sense of warmth and sincerity. As well as resonating with the eco-conscious consumer, this trend will provide light relief from digital overload and a grounding back down to nature.
9. Retro

There’s a throwback in design to nostalgia and escapism from the modern world. Retro is all the rage! This typically includes styles from the mid-20th century (especially from the 1950s to the 1980s). Striking, vibrant, playful, and distinctive graphic design will make a statement next year. The familiarity of retro design makes it a wise trend to use when trying to connect with specific audiences.
10. Serif fonts

Nothing says timeless quite like the Serif fonts. Characterised by typefaces that have small lines or decorations at the ends of their letters, giving them a more traditional, formal, and elegant appearance. Serif fonts will increase in popularity in 2025 because they provide some much-needed contrast against more contemporary fonts. Adding versatility and personality to graphic design, while remaining classic.
Conclusion
Like with the graphic & logo trends for 2024, there’s an ongoing push and pull between using the latest advances in tech and remaining human. Brands can choose to lean in and explore the possibilities of AI-powered design, or opt-out and take more of an offline approach. There’s a middle ground too, and the right path comes down to the business’s brand strategy. With all that in mind, 2025 is shaping up to be a dynamic year for graphic design.
