Our founder, Angela Zeballos, brings over 22 years of experience as a brand designer and has rebranded and built identities for hundreds of businesses. In this post, she walks you through our tried-and-tested brand design process and what’s included in our brand and website packages – so whether we work together or you take a different path, you’ll know what to expect.
LISTEN + UNDERSTAND
Creating the best brands is always a collaborative effort. We bring the structure and right questions to the table, but it’s your insight that gives the brand its direction. After all, you know your business better than anyone. If you’re not quite sure how you want to come across yet, don’t worry – we’ll help you figure it out.
We kick off with a brand strategy questionnaire – a simple Word document that asks you to define key parts of your brand: your audience, competitors, uniqueness, personality, story and brand usage. Visual references are welcome too. The more detailed, the better.
You’ll have a week or two to complete it. Once it’s submitted, we book a strategy meeting to go through it together, ask clarifying questions, and explore ideas so we’re fully aligned before the design begins.
This phase can also include naming your brand, if you haven’t finalised it yet. Sometimes we’ll visualise two different name routes to help you choose based on the look and feel.
DESIGN + PRODUCE
Next, the creation phase: responsive logo design or refresh, colour palette, typography, imagery and graphics – all crafted using proven design principles to communicate your brand clearly and confidently.
From here, we can bring your brand style to life across all touchpoints – from websites to social templates, printed materials and more. We also work with a talented network of trusted associates, so if you need additional expertise like copywriting, photography, SEO or development, we can bring in the right support.
You’ll receive two to three initial design routes, showing logo designs, colour palettes, imagery styles (like illustration or photography), iconography and typography – essentially, the full visual identity of your brand. This comes to you in a PDF to review ahead of our feedback session.
In our feedback meeting, we’ll talk through what’s working, what’s not, and which route best captures your brand. Sometimes we can combine elements from different routes, other times we’ll refine your chosen direction. It’s all part of the creative problem-solving process.
At this stage, we’ll also discuss the website structure and page content. If you’re writing your own copy, we’ll give guidance – or we can bring in a copywriter to do it for you.
Once you’ve chosen your brand direction, we move into design development – refining your chosen route and expanding it into a full brand identity. We then prepare a second design PDF for you to review and approve.
Once finalised, we create your brand guidelines – a document that outlines how to use your brand consistently across all platforms. You’ll also receive all logo files (SVG, PNG, EPS), and we’ll design and supply your business cards and Word letterhead.
If a website is part of your package, we’ll begin the build once the copy is supplied. Your site is built directly on WordPress and designed responsively for mobile, tablet and desktop. We design the homepage and one inner page first for your feedback, then roll out the rest of the site based on your approval.
