Brigit’s Bakery

Craft website design + print marketing

az.design has been working with Brigit’s Bakery for  the past eight years, and has seen it grow immensely from its original bakery in Covent Garden. With over eight daily Afternoon Tea Bus Tours in Central London, Brigit’s Bakery needed an easy-to-maintain, responsive website that could keep up with consumer  demand and an increase in mobile web traffic.

The brief

Brigit’s Bakery’s rapid expansion and changing offer had put strain on their existing website, resulting in slow load times and high bounce rates – losing them sales and bookings. Additionally, 65% of users were viewing the site on mobile devices, so a faster-loading, responsive site was crucial. They wanted an easy to maintain, responsive website that demonstrated the breadth of their offer and showed off their quirky branding. Additionally, they needed support updating and maintaining the site on a retainer basis.

Strategy

az.design researched solutions and put together a proposal to redesign and build the Brigit’s Bakery website to have more of a focus on their highly successful tour bus franchise and address the underlying technical issues. We started the project with strategic planning and UX design to determine key requirements and best solutions for the new site. Suitable content management system (CMS) platforms were researched to find the best option for Brigit’s team to update content internally, as and when needed, while providing a slick customer-facing site with fast page-load speeds.

Results

Google page speed tests show the site is now performing at 100/100 on desktop and 87/100 on mobile.

The project took three months to complete from initial strategy through to launch date. Once the new site went live, Brigit’s Bakery finalised a partnership with Peppa Pig to launch the official Peppa Pig Afternoon Tea Bus Tour – a huge feat. The team at Brigit’s Bakery are extremely happy and excited with the new site and the simplicity of managing the site internally moving forward, with our ongoing support for more complex updates.

Design deliverables

Craft website design + build

Working alongside az.design associate Coopa Website Development, we decided to build the new Brigit’s Bakery site using Craft CMS. It’s a relatively new content management system on the market, which we chose for its easy-to-use backend and brilliant site-speed results across desktop and mobile.

Frontend design was created by az.design, with the primary goal of creating a seamless and well-executed build and user experience.

We continue to work with the team on a retainer basis, supporting with additional website updates and maintenance each month.

Creative direction + project management

We wanted the website and accompanying offline marketing materials to have a fun, frivolous feel, to echo their #MakingLondonSmile tagline.

az.design led all creative direction over Coopa and the photography team, as well as coordinating multiple elements to make sure the website launched on time. We managed the entire project, from liaising directly with the client to establishing core deliverables and timelines for all parties and making sure the site perfectly matched our designs once built.

Managing the smooth transition of content from the old website with over 100 pages was no easy feat! We project managed the process and, with the help of PinkSEO.Marketing, were able to conduct thorough analysis for the old and new site to catch any errors or 404s in the transition.

Print marketing

We also regularly produce printed flyers, menus, brochures and pop up banners to promote the various Afternoon Tea experiences on offer in London.
